When I first meet a potential new customer, I ask as many questions as possible about what they want to get out of their garden. It might be that they have a totally blank canvas or have inherited full borders but want a change of scene and style.
There are some who are passionate about plants and need as much border space as possible, some want somewhere to grow vegetables or cutting flowers, or for children to play, others need plenty of room to sit and relax.
I find that by the end of our first hour together I have enough information to really be able to answer the brief and can get on with a design.
Often I produce two or three sketchy ideas showing different schemes and then these are discussed and I can then give the owners a final design which they might organise or build themselves or I can get prices from trusted landscapers who have built many gardens for me over the years.
